Crusaders nail first victory of season against Georgia State, 55-0

The Crusaders clenched their first win of the season and in Younts Stadium history against the Georgia State Panthers 55-0 on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The Crusaders' fiery offense started the game when quarterback Eric Moeller, senior mathematics, connected with Travis Talbert, sophomore business administration, for a 15-yard pass into the end zone. The extra point by Adrian Escalona, sophomore accounting, put North Greenville on the board early with a 7-0 lead.
Just three and a half minutes later, Moeller hit Brandon Dobbins, freshman business administration, with a 24-yard pass and although the extra point failed, the Crusaders were on top 13-0. Then Escalona added three to the scoreboard with a 26 yard field goal. The Crusaders kept hammering away in the first quarter and with a minute and a half left, Rashad Cummings, freshman business administration, ran 26 yards for the third Crusader touchdown in the first quarter. The dominating North Greenville offense was on top 23-0.
The offense continued to explode when Escalona kicked a 37-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Then Cummings scored on a 7-yard touchdown run, giving the Crusaders an unbelievable 32-0 lead at halftime.
The Crusaders continued to control the game in the second half. In the third quarter Matthew Moore, sophomore international business, ran 9 yards for a touchdown and econd string quarterback Zachary Kay, freshman history, scored on a 14-yard run.
North Greenville's defensive end Daniel Bramlett, freshman undecided, contributed to the score on a safety in the fourth quarter. Derrick Young, senior marketing, completed the scoring with 5:27 left in the game on a 3-yard touchdown run.
The Crusaders had an amazing 504 total offensive yards and the defense held Georgia State to a paltry 97 total offensive yards.
The Crusader defense forced two fumbles and allowed only four first downs. Issac Tate, senior business administration, and Preston Butler, sophomore sport management, led the defense in tackles.
Starting quarterback Moeller completed 8 of 10 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Second-string quarterback Kay came into the game and completed 7 of 9 passes for 115 yards and rushed for a touchdown.
Although leading running back Travis Mosley, junior sport management, did not play due to a hamstring injury, Cummings led the Crusaders in rushing with 111 yards and two touchdowns.
The 55-0 victory was the first win in Younts Stadium history.
