Fifteen clubs battled for the Crusader Sword by participating in competitions that started Tuesday night and continued on until Saturday afternoon.
"It was great that there was so much participation," said Delecta Rollins, coordinator of student activities. "We wanted to have enough activities that the students would be exhausted by the end of the week."
Student services accomplished that goal, by providing activities such as volleyball tournaments, scavenger hunts, skit night, Spirit Day and a float parade.
Two highlights of the week were Skit Night, that took place on Thursday, and the Parade that started off the NGU Homecoming Saturday morning. A total of 12 skits total were performed during skit night, some with surprise appearances by professors.
"This is the third year that I've gone to skit night and this was by far the best I've seen," said Melissa Cox, junior intercultural studies. BSU was the official winner of skit night.
The parade was well attended, mostly by faculty, staff and alumni. The clubs drove their floats with confidence around campus showering the crowds with candy as they passed by. Each float was a different created rendition of the superhero theme held throughout the week.
"Every year there's been a lot of people at the parade," said Lindsay Evatt, admissionssecretary.
The Science club was the official winner of the float competition.
The clubs involved were: Cheerleaders, BSF, BSU, Campus Ambassadors, Campus Ministries, Marching Band, Mass Communications, MENC, Psychology, RAA, Science Club, Sigma Tau Delta, SGA, TEA and Theatron.
The clubs on campus weren't the only groups competing last week, dorms were also battling it out for the McCormick Crown/Cup. The battle was made up of various challenges throughout the week, starting with a "Sit-In" on the upper and lower porch of the dining hall, and ending with "School Spirit at Game."
"The halls really bonded, they took pride in the contests and wanted to work together," said Lorry Green, women's residence coordinator. The McCormick Crown went to Cooper and Craft, and the McCormick Cup to West Crain.
The final event took place during half-time of the Homecoming game on Saturday at Younts Stadium, when the Homecoming court was presented and the winners announced. Second runner-up was given to Joanna Honeyager, senior elementary education, representing Teacher Education Association. First runner-up was given to Kristen Newman, senior sport management, representing Baptist Student Union. Candy Maxwell, senior business administration, representing Resident Assistant Association, was the first Homecoming Queen crowned at North Greenville University.
