Issue date: 10/26/05 Section: News
The Music Foundation of Spartanburg invites the entire Community to "Film Fest" with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Twichell Auditorium at Converse College. This concert is made possible through the generous support of Wachovia.
Dale Clevenger, French hornist, will join Music Director Sarah Ioannides to take the audience through a program of contrasts, lightness and brilliance, with parallel drama and fire.
Principal horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since Feb. 1966, Clevenger is a versatile musician in many areas in addition to the CSO, conducting, chamber music, jazz music, commercial recordings and solos. Maestra Ioannides selected Clevenger for this concert because, "he is the finest Brass player in the US."
"Film Fest" features works created for the Hollywood film Marnie Suite, by Bernard Hermann who was considered the greatest of all Hollywood composers. One of Hermann's most infamous works was composed for Orson Welles' adaptation of The War of the Worlds.
Citizen Kane, Anna and the King of Siam, The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Devil and Daniel Webster all include scores written by Hermann. Maestra Ioannides has selected fine pieces by J.C. Bach, R. Strauss and G. Mahler to compliment the Herman Marne Suite score.
To purchase tickets to this concert, please contact the Music Foundation offices at 864-948-9020. Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for students. Group discounts are available.
The Music Foundation of Spartanburg is funded in part by The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg and its donors, the county and city of Spartanburg and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
