Since Kelly McCorkle graduated cum laude from NGC in 2001, she has been a busy woman. Not only was she crowned Miss South Carolina in 2002 going on to compete in the Miss America Pageant, she also was featured in the "Amazing Race" in 2005, and she was a legislative correspondent for Jim DeMint.
This year she has something new to add to her long list of accomplishments. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, she began her career at NGU as the Associate Director of Alumni Affairs.
"It is such a blessing to be back at North Greenville," said McCorkle. In this position she will have a part in handling alumni reunions, activity for alumnus and also donations to the school.
The addition of McCorkle to the staff of Alumni Affairs is not the only change taking place within that office.
Dr. H. Wilson Nelson, of Greer, has been named the director for university advancement and Rev. Joe F. Hayes, Jr. of Brevard, N.C, has been promoted from associate director for development to director for development. Both will develop relationships with existing and prospective donors, solicit major gifts, provide leadership in coordinating fund-raising activities for all annual and capital programs and organize the annual golf tournaments.
Nelson comes to NGU after serving as senior pastor of Greer First Baptist Church since 1992. A Columbia native, he received his Master of Divinity in 1980 and his Doctorate of Ministry in 1991 from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served on the NGU Board of Trustees since 2003.
Nelson will provide the leadership for planning and implementing a program for University Advancement in resource activities, alumni affairs and public relations. He will also coordinate all alumni, parents, students programs and all areas dealing with public relations.
Hayes came to NGU in February 2005 from First Baptist Church, Brevard, N.C. where he served as pastor since July 1998. He is native of Greenville and a graduate of Wade Hampton High School, Gardner-Webb College and received his Master of Divinity in 1984 from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as assistant pastor and pastor of churches in Florence, Liberty and Brevard, N.C.
Hayes will be responsible for planning and implementing a planned giving program to increase the amount of funds given through the estate and will plans for alumni and friends of the university. Hayes will also coordinate grant requests for foundations and corporations.
"I am looking forward to the leadership that these two men bring as we reorganize these areas to be more productive in the advancement of this university," said NGU President Dr. Jimmy Epting. "These are strong Christian men who will be tremendous leaders as we try to remain committed to providing quality education in a biblically sound, Christ-centered environment."
