A new contest is out on North Greenville's campus for female students who are breathing.
Moss and Sons, the morning radio show on 95.5 The Vibe, is promoting the "Win A Date With Skinny" contest that will send the sports host on the show, Chris Allsep, aka Skinny, sophomore broadcast media, on a date with the winner of the contest. Jeff Moss, senior youth ministries, and David Sons, sophomore broadcast media - the hosts of the morning show - will also be hosting the date. The Vision will tape the date and run it as a reality show next semester.

"We're trying to compete in the morning show market, trying to keep things fresh and new for our listeners and Skinny really just needs a date," said Sons.

"Skinny is really looking for true love and we're looking for a little less," said Moss.

The "Win A Date With Skinny" contest is the sequel to the Skinny TV fund.

"The Skinny TV Fund started out because we found out Skinny didn't have a TV and that is why he was always in the computer lab," said Sons.

The first contest, which ended Thursday, Nov. 3, had an original goal of $8. Moss and Sons were planning on trying to find a television set at a yard sale and haggling with their small budget. By the end of the contest, however, students had raised $45 for the new television set.

"It's just amazing the response we've gotten," from this thing," said Allsep.

The "Win A Date With Skinny" contest will run until Tuesday, Nov. 22. Moss and Sons are encouraging female students to stop by the radio station and fill out an application. Male students are not encouraged to apply, although there already have been a few applicants. At the end of the contest, Allsep will be choosing the best applicant and the date will take place on Monday, Nov. 28. The Mass Communications department will be paying for the date.

"I do look for personality, that's the main thing, good looks, somebody who wants to have fun, someone with similar interests. Really, she just has to be a girl and be breathing," said Allsep.

"And basic motor skills are a plus," said Sons.

Sons and Carl Barnhill, senior broadcast media and station manager of The Vibe, came up with the idea for the contest.

"We were just joking and I said we should do 'Win A Date With Skinny' and the joke became reality," said Barnhill.

There have already been many applications turned into the contest. One of the questions on the applications asks the applicant why she wants to win. Answers have ranged from being desperate and wanting to find a soul mate to liking Skinny's voice on the radio to just being bored.

"I've never really won anything so I thought I would test my luck," said April Tessnear, junior broadcast media.

"We just really want to make Skinny popular. That is really our goal," said Barnhill.

Moss and Sons airs every morning 7-9 a.m. Monday through Friday.
