Dear Editor,
I love the Miss NGU pageant and was excited when pageant time rolled around this year. But when I heard the Miss NGU pageant was going to be a Miss South Carolina preliminary pageant, including swimsuit modeling, I was appalled.
Women parading around in pageants wearing form-fitting clothing to be judged for their "beauty?" Is North Greenville aware of how women abuse their bodies for beauty contests? Why should North Greenville University, "where Christ makes the difference," be affiliated with a pageant that supports stereotypical beauty?
Are we just a stepping-stone to worldly values? Are we the lukewarm believers that John described in Revelation? Should it matter whether the swimsuit portion of the contest is in front of a group of students or a panel of judges? Aren't we judging beauty by the world's standards?
Now personally, I see nothing wrong with wearing a swimsuit to the beach, but I don't wear one to the grocery store! Christian women should have Biblical convictions. They should let no one mold those convictions.
As Christian women we should be viewing beauty through God's eyes, the Creator of beauty. God has called us to be women of integrity and the building blocks of integrity are convictions.
