North Greenville University will be welcoming a new Executive Director for Academics beginning June 1. Dr. Don Dowless will be taking over the position vacated by Dr. Ann Bowles last October. Bowles left NGU for Spartanburg Methodist College, where she is the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. J. Lee McCormick is currently filling the position.

Dowless comes to NGU from Charleston Southern University, where he has served as the dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Associate Provost since 2000.

"I am excited about working with Dr. Epting and the faculty and staff of North Greenville University, who have demonstrated a wonderful commitment to promoting Christian higher education by encouraging students and others to be ambassadors for Christ throughout the world through their chosen professions," said Dowless in a written statement released Monday. "It is a privilege to be able to serve alongside such dedicated people."

"We are thrilled that Dr. Dowless is coming to join the North Greenville family," said university president Dr. Jimmy Epting. "He will do a wonderful job because he has a lot academic and administrative experience."

That experience includes chairmanship of the department of religion and associate professor of religion at Charleston Southern University, a graduate assistantship for the department of religion at Baylor University; visiting lecturer for the department of philosophy and religion at North Carolina State University; and adjunct professor for Campbell University, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Charleston Southern University.

Dowless is a 1979 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his M.Div. from SBTS in 1983 and his Ph.D. from Baylor University in 1989. Dowless received his ordination to the ministry in 1982 by Good Hope Baptist Church in Youngsville, N.C. and has served in pastorates in North Carolina, Texas and South Carolina.

"He loves students and will be a great advocate for students and faculty," said Epting. "He understands higher education as well as the Baptist constituency. We hope everyone will welcome him to our family."
