Lady Crusaders end regular season with overtime win

The Lady Crusaders found themselves falling behind early on against the All-Stars of Converse College on Tuesday, Feb. 14. With over nine minutes remaining in the first half, Converse had a grip on the 30-10 lead advantage. The Crusaders refused to stay down. North Greenville outscored Converse 29-14 over the last nine minutes of the first half to pull within five points at the break. Debbie Wyatt, junior sport management, scored eight points to lead a rally for the Crusaders.

North Greenville outscored the All-Stars in the second half thanks to Audrey Toscano, sophomore undecided, who scored nine of the points, as well as Robin Warner, sophomore marketing, who raked in 8 of the points in the half. Less than 2 minutes ticked away on the scoreboard and the Crusaders held an 86-82 lead, but the All-Stars came back to tie the game, forcing the Crusaders into overtime.

In the first overtime period, North Greenville held another 4-point advantage with time running short, but the lady All-Stars of Converse returned again to force a second overtime period.

The game was close and hard played, but the Converse All-Stars claimed victory over the Crusaders, 105-104. Amber Bramlett, sophomore undecided, downed 14 points for North Greenville, while Toscano scored 13 points. Sarah Giles, senior business administration, and Allison Robinson, junior marketing, each scored 12 points and Amber Rector, senior business, and Wyatt earned 10 points each.
Despite the loss in double overtime, the Crusaders kept their focus as a new challenger stepped onto the court.

Friday, Feb. 17, the Crusaders traveled to Montreat College where Rector scored a career-high 35 points to set the single-game scoring record for North Greenville University and to lead the Crusaders throughout the game. This was the final regular season game for Rector and her fellow seniors Giles, Erin Yull, senior early childhood education, Michelle Dennis, senior elementary education, and Tammy James, senior sport management.

Yull was North Greenville's second-leading scorer with a season-high 15 points. Bramlett added 10 points in as well.

Rector hit 13 of 17 shots, including five 3-pointers. She also nabbed 11 rebounds to give her a double-double in points and rebounds in 30 minutes of action.
North Greenville improved their season to 15-11.

The Crusaders overshadowed the Cavaliers of Montreat with an 89-79 victory. The Lady Crusaders are currently taking action in the NCCAA South Regional Tournament, where yesterday they competed against Chowan College. No information was available at time of print.
