Four North Greenville students participated in the Sectional Championships of the National Academic Quiz Tournaments that took place in Athens, Ga. earlier this month.
Steven Joye, senior English; Haley Gambrell, junior English; Harvin Bedenbaugh, junior English and Peter Lance, junior history, competed in the Southeast Division II tournament with 13 other teams. Although NGU only won two of their 12 games, they beat Shorter College and University of Florida.
"We had so much fun," said Bedenbaugh. "We played 12 rounds and only won one, but we were really excited about it since we are a rookie team. This was our first actual tournament and at first we didn't have the feel for it, but we started getting the hang of it and kept getting better and better. We are all really excited about our next tournament."
The other teams competing in the Southeast Division II include Florida State, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Florida B, Athens State, Wofford, Kentucky State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Tennessee, Berry and Shorter.
The team practices on Monday nights from 6 to 7 in the Admin building, room 205. Anyone interested in joining the team should show up for practices or speak to Dr. Washick. There will be an on campus tournament in early April and it will be part of the McCormick Cup.
