Spring Break is a time of fun and relaxation for most college students. It is a time to go to the beach with friends or is simply a time to get away from the bustle of Tigerville and take it easy at home with family. But to some students, Spring Break was time to give serving Christ. A number of North Greenville students gave up their Spring Break to serve others.
"I always wanted to go on a mission trip and spend time with children," said Brittany Ward, senior elementary education. "I went to Campeche, Mexico over spring break and stayed at an orphanage." Ward's team painted playground equipment for the orphanage, took the children to Belize, and took the older girls to an ecology center to swim in a lagoon. "My favorite thing about the trip was getting to spend time with the children; they were so lovable," said Ward.
Amy Hill, junior Christian Studies, went to Baltimore, Md. with Forest Hill Baptist Church of Raleigh. "I wanted to serve during Spring Break and this was an awesome opportunity," Hill said. Her particular crew worked at a day homeless shelter serving food, organizing clothes and interacting with children. "It was definitely a humbling experience and it left me broken hearted," said Hill.
"I'm a MK (missionary kid) so I felt very drawn to the opportunity to serve," said Erin Wolfe sophomore intercultural studies. "The Lord really placed a burden on my heart to go." Growing up as the child of a missionary, Wolfe lived in New Zealand, the Philippines and Indonesia. Her team traveled to Guatemala over spring break to work with the children of missionaries at a missionary conference. The team led activities for the weekend.
