The North Greenville University baseball team's record fell to 9-29 last week as they went 1-4, splitting a doubleheader with Milligan College, getting blown out by USC-Aiken and dropping both games of a doubleheader to Tusculum College.
NGU started last week off strong on Tuesday, March 28, by taking the first game of a doubleheader against Milligan. NGU jumped on Milligan early by scoring five runs on six hits in the first two innings. Leftfielder Eric Loy, senior business administration, led the team with 2 RBIs, while second baseman Matt Britt, junior sport management; shortstop Mike Reis, junior Christian studies; third baseman Carlos Cardenas, senior international business; center fielder Chris Tate, senior mathematics; and catcher Rick Broadway, junior sport management, each drove in a run. Loy also stole two bases, while Reis and Broadway each stole one bag. Pitcher Brandon Young, junior marketing, picked up the win in a complete game effort.
The second game against Milligan was a completely different story for the Crusaders as they lost 7-0, managing only three hits and booting the ball for three errors. Pitcher Brett Hamilton, sophomore mathematics, was roughed up early for four runs in three innings of work.
On March 29, NGU got blown out 19-4 at USC-Aiken. Pitcher Seth Montgomery, junior interdisciplinary studies, gave up 16 hits and 15 runs, 10 of which came in the third inning and only two of which were earned in three innings. The NGU defense committed six errors and allowed 14 unearned runs. Third baseman Mark Bordeaux, sophomore psychology; Tate; first baseman Dustin Pace, freshman early childhood education; and designated hitter Dylan Davidson, junior sport management, each drove in a run. NGU also got quite a scare as Cardenas took a bad hop to the face. He received eight stitches.
