A ghos of a team for a ghost of a season: Ten of he 14 members of the softball team were asked to withdraw from the school for the remainder of the semester. The softball season was cancelled to an insufficient amount of team members.

Ten students from the softball team were asked to withdraw from the school due to violations of the rules in the Enlightener. The 10 students were members of the softball team.

"We are not playing the rest of the season due to an insufficient number of players," said Jan McDonald, director of athletics.
The softball team had eight games left and then the NCCA tournament.

"We have unfortunately had 33 students that have had to withdraw from school [this semester]. That is an issue we want people to understand we will deal with it and we want people to stay away from it," said Billy Watson, director of student services. Most students we talk to believe those asked to leave were so because of alcohol related violations; however, it is the policy of the school to not discuss specific disciplinary actions of specific students with other students.

"Under the school policy, they would be able to come back to school. They have to reapply. All of them have been encouraged to do that, and it will just be up to them if they would like to do that, " said McDonald. " I know some have already made plans to come back to summer school to get their credits and all that, so we will be in good shape for next year."

"As tough as these consequences are, we will not back down from that. We love the students. We want them to learn these are dangerous issues they are involving themselves in," said Watson.

"Students just need to be reminded over and over and over and again that the college has a no tolerance policy with some things, such as alcohol, illegal visitation, drugs. The rules that the college has when there is absolutely no tolerance, they just need to be reminded that that policy is in place not only on campus but off campus as well," said McDonald.

"It's unfortunate that it happened. As far as the athletic department, we are going to abide by college policy, and we'll stand by college policy and continue to try to encourage our athletes to make sure they obey rules and regulations of the institution," said McDonald.
