Three students were newly inducted into Alpha Kappa Rho, the North Greenville University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta on Tuesday, March 28. Jessica Lamper, senior English; Leonardo Buscemi, junior interdisciplinary studies; and Ashley Bowers, senior English; were the students chosen to be inducted. Sigma Tau Delta is an international English Honor Society, and membership is awarded based on class ranking and grade point average, as well as how many English classes students have taken. Laura Hall, senior English, is the president and the professor head of the club is Dr. James Washick, associate professor of English.
Leonardo Buscemi originally came from Detroit, Mich. He felt the Lord leading him to relocate to South Carolina. A year later he began to attend North Greenville.
"I love the school," Buscemi said. "There are several professors that mean so much to me."
Dr. Cathy Sepko, Chair of the Humanities Department, advised Leonardo to join the honor society because it would look good on a resume. Buscemi said that he also will "enjoy getting to hang out with other English majors." Leonardo is planning to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary after he graduates from NGU. He is interested in becoming a college professor.
Jessica Lamper is another newly inducted student of the honor society. Previously attending Cedarville University of Cedarville, Ohio, for a year and a half, Lamper moved to North Greenville to continue her studies.
"I enjoy being an English student because I love to read and write," Lamper said. "I am glad to be in the honor society."
Lamper, like Bescemi, plans to use the joining for her resume. Along with being an English major, Lamper enjoys writing short stories. After completing her degree at North Greenville University, Lamper plans to move to the Boston, Mass. area or the Chicago, Ill. area.
"I am interested in working in a publishing company as an Acquisition Editor," Lamper continued. "I would also like to be an author of novels, mostly scary."
One of Lamper's literary interests is classic literature, one of her favorite literature pieces is Dracula, written by Bram Stoker.
The third student inducted into the society was Ashley Bowers, who was unable to be contacted for comment.
In the chapel services, students will be able to see announcements on the overhead backdrops for Sigma Tau Delta. A certain grade average is required. The students will also a need a certain amount of level 2000 English classes. For more information, contact Washick or Hall.
