You see, many of the Democrats that were elected last Tuesday were not he Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid types, but were conservative to moderate, often being pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-family, such as Heath Schuler from North Carolina. These Blue Dog Democrats often defeated moderate to liberal Republicans. Any other Democrat that won ran on an anti-Iraq War platform.
So who is to blame for the Republican loss of Congress? Will we cry about the media being biased against us (Which it is)? Will we blame the Democrats for running unfair elections and demand recounts? Will we point fingers at everyone? The answer is no. Republicans have no one to blame but themselves for this loss. To quote the movie Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come," but the GOP built nothing; they had no real platform and they hid in the corner while being shouted down by the media.
So the Republicans must learn this for 2008 - in order to win elections, you must boldly proclaim what you stand for. If you don't, no one will care who you are and will vote for the other guy for the simple fact that you didn't do anything in six years of being the majority. The Republican Congress that ran from 2000-2006 let us all down in areas such as illegal immigration, Social Security reform, and doing anything else they said they'd do. They never took advantage of the majority and were scared to death by liberals with better media coverage. That is why Republicanism lost last Tuesday.
But while Republicanism lost last Tuesday, conservatism did not. As previously stated, conservative Democrats often defeated moderate Republicans. The nation is not getting more liberal; it is just sick of not getting results in the things that matter, and I'm right there with them.
The Republicans that are left in Congress should have had the mess scared out of them by this election and know that this country will not tolerate another do-nothing Congress. They should take this as a message to start doing something now because the Democrats will become so entangled with in-fighting between the liberals and conservatives that a DNC collapse in leadership and organization will occur in time for a GOP landslide victory in 2008.
Things will get worse before they get better, just like the liberal Carter administration before Reagan's terms in office. The nation will see that the DNC does not hold the answers to the country's problems and that liberalism leads nowhere but down. Look for red across the nation on Nov. 4, 2008.
