On Saturday, Nov. 11, three members of the North Greenville cross country team ran in the Suntrust Richmond Marathon.

"We decided to run this together since it is our senior year. We are definitely excited," said Angela Austin, senior business administration.

Starting at 8 a.m. over 4,000 runners covered 26.2 miles. The race began and ended in downtown Richmond, Va.

The runners from North Greenville were Austin, Mark Schandel, senior sport management, and Matt Norman, senior business administration. Both Schandel and Norman have run in two other marathons, but this was Austin's first.

While Schandel ran the distance in the fastest time of the three, finishing in three hours and two minutes, Norman was not far behind with a time of three hours and twenty-four minutes. Austin set herself a goal to not stop running for the entire marathon, and she succeeded with a time of four hours and seven minutes.

"The feeling of satisfaction when you cross the finish line is unbelievable," said Austin.

The Suntrust Richmond Marathon celebrated its 29th anniversary this past weekend, and numerous fans encouraged the runners all along the way.
