The Crusaders concluded their regular season with another win against the Concord University Mountain Lions. Last week's win was not as easily won as the past couple of games.

Even though last Saturday's game was a hard fought win with a final score of 28-25, but it was a still a win and tied a school record for the most wins in one season. North Greenville has not won nine games in a season since it was a junior college in 1988.

This game also put two of North Greenville's players past the 1,000-yard mark for rushing yardage. Matt Moore, junior international business, totaled 1,118 yards this season, and Rashad Cummings, sophomore sport management, totaled 1,020 yards.

The Crusaders were the first to score with a touchdown from 10 yards out with 5:24 left in the first quarter. The PAT by Adrian Escalona, junior accounting, put the score at 7-0. The Mountain Lions scored in the second quarter, and the PAT made it a tie game 7-7 with 9:20 left in the second quarter.

The Crusaders then countered with a 38-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Brandon Dobbins, freshman business administration. The PAT from Escalona put the score at 14-7 with 6:46 left in the second quarter. The next drive by the Mountain Lions was unsuccessful for a touchdown. So, the Mountain Lions made good on the field goal putting the score at 14-10 with 4:12 left in the first half.

In the fourth quarter, senior defensive end Ken Floyd, senior history, played his final regular season game for the Crusaders, and made a decisive play by forcing a fumble that set up the winning touchdown for the Crusaders. Tight end Jarvis Garret, freshman business administration, scored the touchdown and the PAT by Escalona put the score at 28-18 with around five minutes left in the game.

The Mountain Lions did not give the game easily though, driving 72 yards in seven plays for a 28-yard touchdown. The PAT was good by the Mountain Lions and closed the gap with the Crusaders to only three points. The Crusaders managed to hang on the lead by having Greg Woerner, sophomore history, recover the onside kick giving the Crusaders the ball. The game ended with a final score of 28-25 in the Crusaders' favor.

A key player in Saturday's game was Moore who led North Greenville in rushing with 106 yards on 19 carries; he also scored one touchdown. Moore's rushing yardage was trumped though by Concord University's quarterback Dustin Greenwood, who had an astounding total of 232 rushing yards. For the Crusaders, quarterback Eric Moeller, senior mathematics, completed 14 of 20 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. Travis Talbert, junior business administration, was the leading receiver having five receptions for 67 yards. On Crusader defense, the leader was linebacker Derek White, senior sport management, who recorded 12 total tackles including five solo tackles, a tackle for a loss and a sack.

This was the final season game for North Greenville putting their record at 9-2, but the Crusaders will host the 2006 NCCAA Victory Bowl at NGU's Younts Stadium. The Crusaders are playing against Malone College from Ohio at 1 p.m.
