Three of North Greenville's cross-country runners participated in the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on Saturday, Nov. 11. Jessica Boisse, senior English, Amy Givens, junior early childhood education, and Serena Rimer, senior early childhood education, ran the 26.2 mile marathon route that runs through the National Military Park, 20 miles South of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Boisse, Givens and Rimer were 3 of 323 runners in the marathon and among the 12 runners registered in the female age group 1-24. Boisse came in third in her division with a time of four hours and 31 hours. Givens ranked fifth with a time of four hours and 40 minutes and Rimer was tenth with a time of five hours and 18 minutes.
This marathon was the second in which Rimer has participated. She has participated in the NGU cross-country team since her sophomore year. The running that she does for the cross-country team was her main preparation for the race.
"I just wanted to go for the fun of it," said Rimer, who also said she hopes to eventually participate in another marathon.
Both Boisse and Givens were first time marathon runners. "It was actually a New Year's resolution to run one [marathon]," said Boisse.
Like Rimer, Boisse also hopes to run again, "after a while," said Boisse.
