I went into Accepted with expectations of an ordinary teenage-type movie. I was decently surprised. Accepted is about Bartleby Gaines (Justin Long) who is rejected from eight schools. After feeling rejected by his parents because they felt college was the only way to have a future he teams up with a few fellow rejects to create a school so their parents would think they got into a school. Bartleby's best friend Sherman Shraeder makes a web site to help keep up the charade, but inadvertently creates a website that accepts anyone who applies. After hundreds of students appear for orientation Bartleby has to figure out what to do. When he discovers everyone is just as rejected as he is he decides to let them stay. Students get to set the curriculum by writing down what they want to study on a white board then creating the class. What ensues is quite a treat.
Most of the time teen movies consist of very little substance except occasional half-funny jokes and innuendo. Accepted is the exception I think. It's not a life changer nor does it compare to 10 Things I Hate About You or Sixteen Candles, but it's quite a funny. Towards the end the movie kind of died off and tried to become inspirational, but I lost some interest. Overall though I think that Accepted is worth a good rent to watch with some friends. Accepted is rated PG-13 for language, sexual material and drug content.
