In 1991, North Greenville College had only a little over 300 students in attendance and was unable to make payroll and about to close its doors for good. That year Dr. Jimmy Epting came to North Greenville College as president. Epting chose to follow Christ and NGC's theme became known as "Where Christ Makes the Difference." Due to Dr. Epting's willingness to follow God's lead, and lots of determination, God blessed NGC and the enrollment started to climb and payroll started being met.
In 2005, North Greenville College was renamed North Greenville University. Now, 15 years later, NGU has reached its highest enrollment ever in attendance but also several departments have reached their highest enrollment. The following departments that have reached an all time high at NGU are Applied Gerontology with 33 students, Biology with 85 students, Business Administration with 189, Early Childhood Education with 102, English with 46, History with 50, Marketing with 45, Mathematics with 22, Music with 56, Outdoor Leadership with 22, Mass Communication with 122, Psychology with 85 and Theater with 35. All of these departments have reached an all time high in enrollment.
When Dr. Epting chose to follow what God's will for this university look at what happened. "When you can't explain growth and everything that has happened that you can't explain what happened then you know it has to be God that has allowed and made possible the changes and spirit and over all uniqueness of the programs. And we thank Him for what He has done and done it in the spite of me and perhaps others. We thank Him for what He has done continues to do and what He continues to do in the future," said Epting.
