The North Greenville University men's basketball team went into their game Saturday, Jan. 26 facing the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters with hopes of shedding their losing record of 8-9.
"Everyone came ready to play and the effort and desire to win were definitely there," said forward Andrew Nipper, junior sport management.
The Crusaders were off to a good start as forward Amonzo Gantt, senior business administration, earned a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Jordan Richmond, senior business administration, and guard Austin Randel, freshman undecided, both added 12 points.
Meanwhile, guard David Lopez, led the Railsplitters with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Artavius Mitchell and guard Kai Wells added 13 and 10 points as well for LMU.
At halftime, both teams were tied 37-37.
NGU maintained the lead nearly the entire second half with a nine-point lead in their possession and only 5:32 left in the game. LMU brought the game to a close on a 14-4 run, including Lopez's game-winning three-pointer in the last seconds of the game. The Railsplitters win may have dropped the Crusaders to 8-10 on the season, but they are not going to let it keep them down.
"If we keep playing together well as a team and limit our turnovers it should be a great rest of the year," said Randel.
