Facing the Giants is about a coach who is in danger of losing his job. Everything hits him in one swift blow, yet the first thing he does is turn to his God. Finally realizing that he has no control of his life he lets it all fall in God's hands. As he does this he focuses his football team, his life, his family life and his job around praising his Lord Jesus, and he is amazed by what happens.
The first thing I need to say about this movie is that don't expect a big Hollywood production because it is not one. Facing the Giants was filmed and produced by Alex Kendrick, who is the media minister at Sherwood Baptists in Albany, Ga. Sherwood Baptists funded and provided most of the cast for this film. That being said, you have to watch Giants out of the mind-set that you're going to see a million dollar budget movie, and realize this is an amateur cast.
Although the acting is amateur, the storyline is captivating. Yes, it does have the typical Christian movie moments that are a little much, but it has those moments where you are totally wrapped up emotionally. It had those situation were you can actually see yourself in, and makes you wish for the faith and strength that Coach Taylor had. It's an amazingly inspirational movie. It moves away from that typical football movie where the team conquers the day, and focus on how threw God anything can be done.
Going back to my first statement saying this is no high budget movie, this movie was amazingly well directed. Alex Kendrick and his brother Stephen Kendrick do a very good job of flush the story out threw their shots and lighting effects. Being shot in high definition the quality is amazing. Besides the acting this movie could honestly fool many people in thinking it came straight out of Hollywood.
I would encourage every one to watch this movie, but don't be too critical. It's an amazing inspirational movie that is Christ centered and is appealing. Facing the Giants is a great movie that makes you laugh, cry, and think about your own faith.
Facing the Giants is rated PG and is now on DVD.
