Blogging, generally described as an open form of an online journal, has become a recent phenomenon. There are blogs on news, politics, religion, entertainment; the topics are limitless. So for all the bloggers out there, here are five blogging sites where people can let their voices be heard.
One of the most popular blogging sites is MySpace.com, a social network that also features pictures, bulletins and a wide friend network.
"I use MySpace because it is a great way to keep in touch with friends plus I can post pictures and write blogs for my friends to see, all in one place," said Dawn Childress, freshman elementary education.
Users can make their blogs available to anyone who visits MySpace or they can use a special feature to make the blog visible only to their friends on MySpace. Registration is free on MySpace, so anyone can join with no fee.
Unlike MySpace, WordPress.com is a site that's main focus is blogging. Users can share their blogs with the other 650,000 bloggers on the WordPress network, create and easily change the background of blogs and tag blog topics.
WordPress also allows the users to move their blogs from other sites like LiveJournal and Xanga into their WordPress blog. WordPress has free registration and also allows the user to host multiple blogs under one username.
Another great blog site is LiveJournal.com. Like MySpace, LiveJournal also allows the user to write blogs that anyone can read or allow only their friends can read, depending on their preference setting. It is free to get an account with LiveJournal.
Xanga.com is another social network site that's main feature is blogging. Users can post comments on other's blogs, view other users' profiles and subscribe to favorite blogs with easily accessible links. A standard Xanga site is free, but users can upgrade to a Premium site for four dollars a month.
Vox.com is one of the newest upcoming blogging sites. Vox is completely designed in Flash, with over 150 background designs to choose from. Users can share imported media from YouTube, Flickr, Photobucket and Amazon. Preference settings also allow users to select privacy edits that only allow certain users to see certain content. Vox is completely free.
One great site for people who would rather read blogs than write them, Technorati is a search engine that allows users to type in a keyword and blogs pertaining to that subject will appear. Blogspot.Goggle.com also works the same way. Users can type in any subject, ranging from environmental issues to politics and both search engines will retrieve blogs from all over the web that pertain to the wanted subject.
