North Greenville University has received the opportunity to assist in the start of a church and partner with Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville, by providing the facilities.

Jim Bates, assistant campus minister, said North Greenville decided to join in with Mud Creek, "because of our interest in trying to reach as many people in this area as we can, and there was a certain awareness of a need in this area."

This will be a completely new church that will eventually become self-supporting, and for the time being, the pastor of the church will be Greg Mathis.

"I think it is a great opportunity for North Greenville to support the local believers in this community, but we need to be careful that we don't super impose our ideas and convictions on that local body," said Matthew Blanton, sophomore Intercultural studies.

The church will start holding vision casting and prayer gatherings every Sunday at 6:15 p.m., starting March 11 and running through April 1, in Hamlin Recital Hall.

On Easter Sunday, April 8, Mud Creek will have its "Opening Celebration Service" at 6:15 p.m. in Turner Chapel. Mathis will be providing the sermon and the Mud Creek Baptist Church choir and orchestra will be leading the music.

"I think it's an awesome opportunity to unify the college and the local community through Christ and it should give the college an opportunity to reach the community," said Luke Varn, freshman Intercultural studies.
