Tennis serves up loss to start the season

After securing the National Christian College Athletic Association title for five consecutive years, the men's tennis team began this new season with a 1-8 loss against Catawba College on Saturday, Feb. 3.
William Ho, sophomore marketing, playing as #3 pulled off the only win for the Crusader men's team.
"We have new players on our team, and it was our first match and they were nervous," said Ho. "Even though we lost, we have a lot of potential and during the semester we will improve, especially with Coach's guidance."
After placing third in the NCCAA division last season, the women's tennis team also began this new season with a shaky start. The Lady Crusaders were barely defeated by Catawba 4-5, after a super tiebreaker that gave the Lady Indians the winning score.
Teresita Mariani and Aubrey Sawyer, sophomore music performance, defeated the Lady Indians in singles. Mariana teamed up with Cherie Curtis, sophomore elementary education, to take the Indians down another notch by winning doubles. Sawyer and Caitlyn Whitted, junior sport management, shortly followed suite with another win for NGU in doubles.
The Lady Indians secured their victory against the Lady Crusaders with by winning the final match in a third set tiebreaker.
The first men's and women's home matches will be played this Thursday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.
