The fast food industry seems to be too much on the heart-stopping side. In a world full of saturated fat, MSG and enough grease to oil a car, it is seemingly impossible to find a decent meal that is not going to cause your blood pressure to increase or kill your budget. Instead of adding to the Freshman 15 that can double into the Freshman 30 or prematurely preparing your heart for cardiac arrest, throw your appetite a curve with a healthy, fresh meal.

Tucked inside Poinsett Plaza on South Main Street in downtown Greenville lays the solution to finding a heart healthy meal. Two Chefs Delicatessen and Market is a much-needed break from all the pizza, burgers and fries.

Opened in 1997, owners Bill and Judy Balsizer brought a new flavor to the downtown area.

"There wasn't anything like this at the time when we moved to Greenville," said Mrs. Balsizer. The deli serves a wide variety of gourmet of fresh salads, sandwiches and soups, as well as a wide variety of desserts.

Want more than just the soup and salad with a sandwich on the side? Two Chefs also offers ready-to-go entrées. Entrées, such as a black bean burrito or chicken lasagna, can be ordered and taken home to heat and serve. The cuisine at the deli consists of American, European, Greek, Oriental and Vegetarian food.

Want to know a good dish to try? "I have two personal favorites," said Balsizer. "My favorite salad is the Asian chicken and my favorite sandwich is the Portobello mushroom." The Portobello mushroom sandwich is an ideal treat for vegetarians.

The average meal cost at the deli ranges around six dollars and is well worth every cent. The salads are always made fresh, the sandwiches are made to order and the meal does not disappoint. The food is full of flavor and you still have enough money to pay for that Starbucks Frappuccino. Your mouth and appetite will thank you, as well as your heart.

Two Chefs Delicatessen and Market is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The deli has two locations - the South Main Street store downtown and a store on the eastside of Pelham Road. Reservations are not accepted at this casual dining restaurant. Two rooms are available for indoor dining and outdoor dining is available when weather permits.
