The Crusaders took the floor Thursday, Feb. 15, at 12-12 looking to get above .500 and improve to 13-12 against a Warren Wilson team that has seen better years.
The Crusaders took the opening tip and never looked back, sprinting out to an eight-point lead. The Crusaders took a 13-point lead in to half 37-24 against Wilson. As the second half started up, their 13-point lead quickly grew.
NGU's offense scored 52 points in the second half. Also, the defense held Warren Wilson to just 16 points in the second half, which was a season best for the Crusaders. As the final whistle blew on a miserable night for Warren Wilson, the Crusaders had wrapped up their 13th win. It was Warren Wilson's 15th loss.
The 52-point victory was the largest margin of victory for the Crusaders since their 47-point whipping of Warren Wilson last season. Every player on the NGU roster scored, and four were in double figures. Jordan Richmond, senior business administration, and Amonzo Gantt, senior business administration, both racked up 19 points. Austin Randel, freshman undecided, was not far behind in the scoring stats with 18 points. Andrew Nipper, junior sport management finished with 10 points. P.J. Schumacher, senior sport management, was one point from his teammates in double figure status, and ended the game with nine points.
The Crusader finished strong with 64 percent shooting from the floor, 47 percent from three-point land and 78 percent from the free throw line. The Crusader defense also held Wilson to 25 percent from the floor and kept any player on their roster from reaching double digits.
The NGU men's team hopes to finish the season strong by playing well in the NCCAA South Regional beginning March 5.
