It was a tough weekend for the North Greenville softball team. The team was swept in a doubleheader by Carson-Newman University by cores of 6-2 in the first game and 10-3 in the second game.

The first game was a close battle during the first three innings. At the top of the fourth inning Carson-Newman took the lead by bringing in three runs and bringing in another three runs in the top of the fifth. However, the Lady Crusaders continued to fight strong during the bottom of the fifth gaining two runs.

North Greenville played Milligan College on Saturday, Feb. 17, who also took both games in the doubleheader by scores of 7-1 in the first game 7-1 and 5-4 in the second game.

"Mentally we weren't there," said Courtney Neas, sophomore sport management. "One mistake leads to another mistake."

Though the roster consists of only five returning players, head coach Buster Sturkie still has high expectations for his young, energetic team that is mostly made up of freshman and sophomores.

"I expect to win all we play… but that's not really reality," said Sturkie. "The freshmen are really being thrown to the wolves."

Although the team sits at 0-8 on the season Sturkie still describes his team as "the best group of kids ever."

The Lady Crusaders continue their season tomorrow at Limestone College at 2 p.m. and at home on Feb. 24 against Mars Hill College at 1 p.m.
