Professor Wes Warren, better known as "Prof," is a beloved member of the faculty and staff at North Greenville University. Prof came to North Greenville University in January of 1993 after his wife found a newspaper article advertising for a Spanish teacher. He lives in Central, S.C. with his wife Sharon in a home they built together in 1976.

A typical day for Prof is to come to work and start teaching classes at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and at 11 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday. During the week Prof teaches six classes, five being Spanish courses and one conversational French course. The rest of Prof's day, when not in classes, is to be available to students whenever they need him.

"He's a sweet old man and he likes to laugh, which is infectious," said Gloria Hiatt, junior broadcast media.

Over the past 14 years of teaching at North Greenville University, Prof has had many experiences both good and bad. Two of his favorite memories outside of the classroom are the "experience of teaching with Dr. Dee Bielecki" and going on mission trips to Honduras with students and the friendships developed with students while in Honduras.

One of the highlights of Prof's day while in the classroom is the devotional times with his students and what the students share about what God is doing in their lives. Prof began his love for languages while in Germany where his father was an army chaplain. He had started learning German but when his family moved to Kansas he started learning French at the high school as they did not have German available to learn.

He learned Spanish while receiving his masters. Prof studied at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. for his undergraduate degree in French and at Kansas State Teachers College, now Emporia State University, in Emporia, Kan. for his Masters degree in Foreign Languages. He has done further studies at University of Alaska, Clemson University, Furman University and Limestone College.

He has learned to speak French and Spanish fluently over the years of studying languages for a total of being able to speak three languages. Prof loves to teach and continues to teach because he "enjoys seeing students learn."

Prof's personal mission statement while teaching is to "help students to be able to communicate around the world." When Prof is not teaching classes, helping students, or going on mission trips with students he enjoys spending time with his wife going shopping, watching television and reading.

"Prof is a teacher who really cares about his students. It isn't just another job to him. He really wants to see the students learn," said Erin Drawdy, senior print media.
