The men's tennis team picked up a dominant 8-1 victory against Lincoln Memorial College Wednesday at the North Greenville University tennis courts.
The Crusaders participated in the Barton College Tournament this past weekend and finished 2-2. Mt. Olive College defeated NGU 5-0 early Friday morning, but NGU came back that night with an 8-1 win against St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
After a tight match, Saturday morning, the Crusaders were downed by Limestone College 5-2, and Chowan fell to NGU 5-0 Saturday afternoon.
"The men's tennis team will become more united later in the season following more wins and this will create a better atmosphere," said Tomas Kirstukas, graduate studies.
"The teams played really well," said head coach Mark Elliot. "I was happy with the way everyone played and competed. It was difficult because we are not used to playing four matches in a day."
Meanwhile, the women's team fell to Lincoln Memorial College 8-1 Wednesday at the North Greenville University tennis courts.
The Lady Crusaders broke even in the Barton College Tournament this past weekend, where they picked up two wins and two losses.
Mt. Olive College defeated NGU in a tight 5-4 match Friday morning. Later that evening the Lady Crusaders came back with an 8-1 victory against St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
The winning steak continued when NGU downed Barton College 5-0 Saturday morning, but came to an abrupt halt when the Crusaders fell to Limestone 5-1.
"I was happy with the girls," said Elliot. "I noticed a lot of improvement this weekend with Cherie Curtis and Rebecca Cooper. We are still working on the girls doubles to make them stronger; they are a weak spot for us. The girls have seven matches left and we are right in the middle, in the thick of things."
"The girls team this year is very unified and supportive of each other, and I think we will do well," said Keisha Kohns, senior elementary education.
