Many have probably seen the burn-effect signs posted on the doors and walls around campus that say, "Ignite a church start," but what does that mean?

Mud Creek Baptist Church is located in Hendersonville, N.C. The church is about 22 miles from campus and has approximately 3,000 active members. There are a lot of members that live in northern Greenville county and have to commute weekly to church, thus sparked an idea to start another church in the area. Pastor Greg Mathis thought it would be a good place to start a church for the area. One thing led to another, and NGU allowed Mud Creek Baptist Church to use the university's facilities.

The first service was held Sunday, March 11. There were 20 people in attendance, five were North Greenville students.

"I enjoyed the service and I think they have a positive message. I plan to attend again in the future," say freshman Dustin Rogers, freshman undecided.

The church meets at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday nights in Hamlin Recital Hall. The big kick-off celebration service is going to be held on April 8, Easter Sunday evening. All students and family are welcome to come.

"The first worship service for the new church was an enriching experience, one that encouraged my walk with Christ. I love how the church follows the five purposes modeled by the early church. The new church is definitely an asset to the school and is going to enhance the already pervading spirit of North Greenville as being a place 'Where Christ Makes the Difference'," said senior Cody Gentry, senior youth ministries.

Since North Greenville is allowing Mud Creek to use the facilities on campus, Mud Creek in return has offered free use of their church in Hendersonville as additional classrooms in the continuing educational program.

"This church wants to be an example of giving," said Mayson Easterling, vice president for denominational relations.
So, if you are looking for a church on Sunday nights this may be the one for you. Bring a friend and join in on something that may just set your heart on fire for Christ.
