It was about a year ago that the Mass Communication department at North Greenville University started The Vision News.
"When The Vision first started, people were just learning how to use the equipment and things like that," said Andrew Stevens, media instructor, advisor for The Vision, The Vibe and The Aurora yearbook.
However, the newscast is now reaching an even greater potential.
"The Vision news actually got its start last year under the leadership of Jacob Via. Even though he is no longer on staf, Via's hard work helped in a major way to bring this program back," said Stephen McMahan, junior broadcast media.
Recently The Vision has come back on the air and will be starting a weekly newscast.
"It's not a daily cast," said Stevens. The Vision News will be a weekly student led and organized newscast that will cover a variety of issues.
"The Vision will cover topics such as campus news, sports, things of the past, things to come and even some national news," said Stevens. Students of the video practicum class and other broadcast media students can participate with the Vision News broadcast.
"Currently the primary news anchors are Callie Holden and Stephen McMahan," said Stevens.
The Vision will not be a live news broadcast, but will be a prerecorded airing. It will be aired on channel 48, with a temporal schedule being from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday to early evening Thursday. However, the schedule is likely to change.
"Students should know that channel 48 is a lab channel for The Vision News, and regular programming will continue to be aired once the news airing is finished," said Stevens.
