Rachel Hampton, a mass communication alumni, will speak in Fusion on Thursday, April 19 and will be in the Todd Dining Hall on Friday, April 20. During those times, Hampton will share the work that God has been doing in her life.
Hampton had no desire to be involved in missions prior to attending North Greenville. She felt that she had not been called to missions, and after coming to North Greenville, realized that everyone has been called to missions.
Matthew 28:19-20 says, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Through scripture and Dr. Allan McWhite, Hampton discovered that each person has the responsibility to go and share the good news of Jesus Christ. Hampton felt God tugging at her own heart to become involved. Nevertheless, God did not send her overseas immediately after graduation. Hampton went instead to a radio position in Arkansas for a while. Recently, the doors have been opening for Hampton to participate in missions work.
"I am preparing to go overseas for two years with Wycliffe Bible Translators under their Spectrum program," said Hampton.
The program includes a trip on the MCDoulos ship with Operation Mobilization. The volunteer crew consists of 350 members from 50 countries with an average age of 25 years old. The ship docks at different cities for two to four weeks. While the ship is docked, the crew goes out and ministers to the people. Vacation Bible schools are one way that the team reaches out to the children of a specific area.
Providing that the necessary support comes in, Hampton will go to South Korea and Hong Kong in August. The second part involves staying in Manila, Philippines to produce radio and video programs to help the missionaries throughout Asia. The production will hopefully make translating easier in order to provide people with the gospel in their own language.
To hear more about Hampton's inspiration and to learn more about this missions opportunity, attend Fusion on Thursday, April 19. Hampton still needs more support for this journey. Anyone interested in becoming involved by giving can visit www.rachelhampton.com.
"There are cool, young, single people getting involved and serving and making a difference in lives all over the world," said Hampton.
