The leaders of North Greenville University changed the name of the campus' student revival, but they want more than a new look, said Mike Landrum, director of youth ministry.
"We changed the name to more adequately describe what we are after," Landrum said. "Calling it a revival doesn't mean God is going to show up … we are asking God to use the students as vessels to minister to the campus in a mighty way."
From Monday, Jan. 28, to Friday, Feb. 1, North Greenville hosted its annual student led renewal.
The name has been changed from Student Led Revival to Student Led Renewal to emphasize the change that the leaders hope will take place in the lives of the students and faculty.
The theme for this year's Student Led Renewal is the cross: "everything that it was when Christ died and [everything that it] is to believers now."
Crosses were set up throughout campus to remind students of the student renewal.
They are there to remind students to be praying for both the speakers and the listeners at the renewal services throughout the week. More importantly, they will be set up to remind students of the price that was paid for their salvation.
A unique aspect of the renewal was the opportunity students had to use their gifts and abilities to minister to their peers.
All the speakers and worship-leaders were students.
Landrum said much prayer and preparation goes into the revivals each year.
"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit," Titus 3:5.
