The intramural ultimate Frisbee season got off to a blistering start last week.
B-Team defeated the Unrecruitables 11-3 in the opening game of the season, and the Scrubs followed by handing Easy Street a 10-2 loss in Week 1. The Dirty Pirates' first game came last Monday in Week 2 against the Unrecruitables.
These two weeks were the beginning of a Frisbee season that was not scheduled to be played, but Donald Lilly, intramural director, decided to bring ultimate Frisbee back for the spring semester after he received an overwhelming amount of requests from students.
This season is open for the crowning of a new champion, since the Pink Panthers, last semester's winners, disbanded.
The dispersion of players from the Pink Panthers, the lack of a clear favorite and the addition of new teams to the fray make this season unpredictable.
Tom Jones, sophomore, elementary education, is a former Pink Panther but is currently captaining the Dirty Pirates, and he believes it will be an exciting season of Frisbee.
"This season, the competition is going to be intense," said Jones. "There are a lot of super-crazy, great players out there. It's going to be amazing."
Many of the Pink Panther players moved to B-Team, and with their Week 1 victory, they hope to be a force this season.
The Scrubs are looking to make it back to the championship game where they lost last year. Nobody can be counted out early in the season, though, and the Dirty Pirates, Unrecruitables and Easy Street are all playing for intramural glory.
"We're not sure how the season's going to go," said Chris Reynolds, freshman Christian studies. "Most of the teams look a lot different than they did last year, so you never know."
