The NGU men's basketball team traveled to Charlotte, N.C., to face the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Playing in the Charlotte Bobcats' arena was North Greenville's first experience in an NBA arena.

The Belmont Abbey Crusaders had a comfortable 39-29 lead at halftime. But North Greenville was not able to close the gap after halftime and was defeated 66-55 at the final buzzer.

Guard Austin Randel, sophomore undecided, was North Greenville's leading scorer with 31 points. Kyler Vitko, sophomore undecided, also contributed with eight points and six rebounds. An injured Nathan Wilson, freshman business administration, put in some good minutes. Aaron Powers, freshman undecided, and Zach Babbitt, freshman business administration, also added quality playing time to the game.

Head coach Chad Lister said, "Our effort was better than our performance. We played with a great deal of passion, but made mistakes on offense, mostly turnovers. Our effort, however, was much better."

North Greenville's record fell to 4-11 after their loss to Belmont Abbey.

Coach Lister said playing in an NBA gym had little effect on the Crusader's performance.

"I think it had an effect for the first two or three minutes of the game, getting accustomed to the amount of room behind the backboard. But, both teams seemed to settle in after the first few minutes," stated Lister.
