The Lady Crusaders won two of their three games played last week, putting their record at 9-9 and up to .500 for the fourth time this year.
NGU started the season 4-3, but dropped four straight following that. NGU went into Monday night's game against Voorhees College to even out their record at 8-8.
Voorhees came in trying to stop a 3 game losing skid, and the Lady Tigers kept the Lady Crusaders in check for the first half but the Crusaders took a slim 38-36 lead into the locker room.
NGU stormed out in the second half and kept Voorhees guessing the rest of the game, winning by 13, 83-70.
The Lady Crusaders shot out the lights, hitting 65 percent of their shots and 63 percent from 3-point range and 79 percent from the free throw line. Five Lady Crusaders scored in double digits, including a solid 18-point performance from Amanda Milner, junior psychology. They held the Voorhees to 47 percent from the field, 44 percent from 3-point range and a dismal 58 personal from the free throw line.
The second game of a three-game week for the Lady Crusaders was against the Railsplitters from Lincoln Memorial University, who were coming in at just one game better than NGU at 9-8.
The Lady Crusaders did not come out strong in the first half and found themselves in a 12-point hole at halftime, 40-28.
In the second half, the Lady Crusaders still had no answer and were down by 22 at one point.
The Lady Crusaders gave up 15 three-pointers, a season high. Kara Harris proved to be a deciding factor with eight 3-pointers and 26 points. Eboni Davis, sophomore biology, led the Lady Crusaders with 15 points. Milner and Robin Warner, junior marketing, each added 10 points. NGU dropped to 8-9 and under .500 once again.
"We just didn't play like we should have played," Nikki Wood, sophomore psychology.
Lowly Chowan University came to Hayes Gymnasium at 6-15 on Feb. 2 in an effort to salvage what has been a disappointing season.
The Lady Crusaders showed no mercy against Chowan and shot 55 percent from the floor and over 70 percent from three-point land to take a comfortable 42-22 lead into halftime.
They stretched their lead to 30 in the second half and won by 29, 85-56.
Milner had another big night with 22 points and 4 rebounds. Three more Crusaders, Davis, Whitney Smith, junior sport management, and Jaleesa Gladden, freshman early childhood education, hit double digits.
"We played great against Chowan and showed how good we really are as a team. We just have to do it for more than one game at a time," Davis said.
The Lady Crusaders will travel to Morris College Feb. 7 at 6 p.m., and will play at Converse College Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.
