On Feb. 12, North Greenville's baseball team traveled to Brevard to play the Tornados in a doubleheader. This is the Crusader's third doubleheader of their 2008 season.

Brevard's first baseman Justin Frady started out the second inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The Tornados' designated hitter Josh Miller hit a single but made it to second on an error by outfielder Chris Harbit, freshman undecided. The next two batters for Brevard struck out to bring Zac Williams to the plate. Williams hit a two-run double to put the Tornados up 2-0 early in the game.

Brevard's Luke Lovelace started off the fifth inning with a free pass after being hit by a pitch. Brice Warner sacrificed to get Lovelace to second base. Lovelace then stole third and made it home on another NGU error, putting Brevard up 3-0. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded, Justin Frady and Josh Miller would both make it home to put the Tornados ahead 5-0 heading into the sixth inning.

NGU's offense was stifled and only managed four hits while being shutout 5-0.

Third baseman Grant Kelley, freshman sport management, went 2-for-3 at the plate leading the Crusaders at bat. Catcher Curt Marshall, senior elementary education, and outfielder Randy Stegall, sophomore undecided, had NGU's other two hits.

Brevard started the second game strong, scoring six runs at the bottom of the first inning.

Josh Miller led off the third inning with a double and advanced to third after Chris White hit a single. Miller would then score on an error by shortstop Cory Hinton, junior sport management, increasing their lead to 7-0. Chris White was driven home on a single by Brevard's second baseman Adam Arrowood. Outfielder Mike Jones would also make it home on a hit by Lovelace, which put Brevard ahead 9-0 at the end of the third inning.

North Greenville scored in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run by Kelley. His run was the first by NGU during the doubleheader.

Brevard scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give them a 10-1 lead over the Crusaders.

North Greenville tried to close the gap by scoring four runs in the last two innings. Their effort would not be enough to get them a win, and they were defeated by a final score of 10-5.

Kelley led the Crusader offense by going 1-for-3 with a home run. Marshall was 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run as well.

The Crusaders' record dropped to 1-9 with the loss against Brevard.

North Greenville's next game will be at home, today, at 1 p.m. against Mars Hill College.
