The North Greenville Crusaders played a doubleheader against the Mars Hill College Lions at home on Feb. 20. The Crusaders fell to Mars Hill in the first game by a score of 5-2. North Greenville bounced back during the second game and secured a victory by a score of 7-0.

The Crusaders record improved to 2-12 after their win.

The first game rode on the performance of starting pitchers Devin Vance, senior business administration, for North Greenville and Eric Stewart for Mars Hill.

Stewart's performance, however, continued through the rest of the game, while NGU made costly errors in the seventh inning that Mars Hill turned into four runs.

Mars Hill's Austin Boehme started off the third inning with a bunt single. Matt Oleski followed Boehme's hit with a walk from Vance. Devin Presnell then reached first on an error by third baseman Dayton Lupton, sophomore sport management. With Oleski on second, Michael Dobre hit a single to left field to drive in Oleski. The Crusaders closed the top of the third inning with the bases loaded but not letting Mars Hill have another chance to score.

Lupton hit a single to right field to start off the bottom of the third inning. Lupton scored following a sacrifice bunt by Chase Pope, freshman business administration, and groundout to third base by Chris Harbit, freshman undecided. Rand Stegall, sophomore undecided, also scored when Josh Hohn, freshman undecided, drove a ball into right centerfield.

From the fourth to the sixth inning, Vance and Stewart allowed only two baserunners combined.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Lions' Daniel Coffey scored on a wild pitch from Vance. Boehme scored on a single by Devin Presnell, and Mark Bordeaux, junior psychology, replaced Vance following Presnell's at-bat. With two outs in the inning, Corry DiBiase reached base on an error by Crusader's second baseman, allowing Presnell to make it home.

The Crusaders were not as lucky in the seventh inning as Grant Kelley, freshman sport management, Chad Drosieko, freshman elementary education, and Lupton were retired in order.

NGU was led by Stegall and Hohn who both went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The second game of was much better for the Crusaders. North Greenville got an early lead and pitcher Michael Benjamin, freshman undecided, pitched well, leading them to an easy victory.

Drosieko and Lupton scored in the second inning giving the Crusaders an early lead.
