The Crusaders softball team fell below .500 as they were swept on Feb. 19 in a doubleheader at Carson-Newman University. The Eagles shut out NGU in both games by scores of 4-0 and 11-0.
NGU came close in the first game but could not overcome Carson-Newman starting pitcher Zoe Heim and was shut out. Heim struck out nine and allowed only three hits. No NGU baserunner reached scoring position.
The Crusaders had no answer for Carson-Newman in game two, giving up five runs in the second and fourth innings respectively winning 11-0.
NGU then dropped its home opening doubleheader on Feb. 21 against Mars Hill, which was already on a school record setting pace at 12-1. NGU only managed two hits in the game and lost 6-2.
The Crusaders were down 7-1 in the third inning of the second game, but was called due to inclement weather. The makeup date has been announced.
The Crusaders were then swept in yet another doubleheader against Presbyterian College by scores of 10-1 in the first game and 5-2 in the second.
In game one the Lady Crusaders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but it was all PC after that, as they tallied 11 hits and won 10-1. The losses to PC extended North Greenville's losing streak to six games and dropped their record to 2-7.
The Crusaders will be back in action at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Piedmont College.
