The North Greenville University Constitution is being rewritten, and students are going to be a part of it.
Student Services Director Billy Watson, Diane Turner, Student Activities Coordinator, and students from the Student Government Association are planning to rewrite the university's constitution by the end of March.
They plan to change the constitution's structure and format to be a more adaptive document that functions as a positive role on the campus.
Once written, the student body will be given two weeks to look at the document and ask questions and discuss any issue they might have. Then, after a month, a vote will be taken to see if the reworked constitution is approved.
Another thing the SGA plans to change is their name.
Though still in progress, they are thinking of changing their title to Student Leadership Council.
"My goal is to see the Student Leadership Council become a working organization at North Greenville instead of just a title for different members of something with this organization," Turner said.
Her goal is to get not only the council involved, but also other clubs and even students.
She plans to achieve an increase in participation having a monthly meeting of the Council with a club president or the Council's vice president. By doing this, the students will be more united with their organizations.
The Council's sophomores, juniors and seniors are going to be given more responsibilities, such as helping with events. But freshmen will be exempt because of their unfamiliarity with NGU.
Leadership positions are available for next year. So, students who are interested in being president, vice president or secretary must stop by Turner's office to obtain an application. The deadline for turning it in is April 1.
