The North Greenville University club baseball team pulled off a come-from-behind victory against Furman University on March 14.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Crusaders rallied to win 11-6. Corey Gardner, freshman undecided, pitched a complete game. NGU's defense committed only one error.
Gardner also helped his own cause by going 3-for-5 at the plate. He was aided by a 2-for-4 performance by Guy Bennett, sophomore sport management, two additional hits by Trevor Greer, sophomore mathematics/history, and Sparky Finley, freshman undecided, who drew three walks.
The teams were also scheduled to play a doubleheader on Mar. 15, but it was called due to rain in the fourth inning with NGU up 3-0 and one out away from an official game. Before the inclement weather, Zac Templeton, freshman sport management, threw 4 2/3 innings while striking out six and allowing no runs.
The end of the first game as well as the second game will be made up when NGU and Furman meet in April.
This weekend, the Crusaders travel to Duke University for a three-game series.
