If you are in the mood for a whimsical, laugh filled movie, Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who is for you. Dr. Seuss's classic children's books seem to adapt very well to the big screen.
The plot of this movie revolves around an amiable elephant named Horton who happens upon a clover that has a tiny speck on top of it. However, this is no ordinary speck. This speck is the home of a microscopic town called Whoville. This town has many residents, including a mayor who communicates with Horton and tries to convince the other residents of Whoville of Horton's existence.
When the other animals hear of Horton's discovery, some do not believe him. A kangaroo is especially resentful of his discovery and fears it will lead to dangerous results. So she decides to have the speck destroyed.
Thus begins Horton's adventure to save the residents of Whoville.
One aspect of this movie that gives it success is the choice of voices for Horton and Whoville's mayor.
Jim Carrey provides the voice of Horton, and Steve Carell is the mayor. Both provide the laughs audiences expect from two actors well known for the comical characters they play.
I surprisingly enjoyed this movie. Because of the combination of laughs and likable characters, I give this movie four out of five stars.
Go see Horton Hears a Who with your younger brother, sister or a group of friends.

of course, Dr. Seuss is classic; after seeing Horton Hears a Who i remembered how much he packs into relatively simple storylines... they didn't add much to the original story either except for the usual Jim Carreyisms. (Continued…)
