Last week the North Greenville softball team really picked up the pace and won four straight games between two doubleheaders.

The first doubleheader took place on March 20, against Piedmont College at home. In the first game, Allison Bailey, sophomore undecided, hit two homeruns, the second of which was a monster shot that hit off the top of the flagpole in centerfield. Hope Brewer, sophomore sports management, scored in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Kayla Farmer, sophomore undecided.

The score remained locked at 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Christina Shin, sophomore business, singled in Tia LaFreniere, sophomore outdoor leadership, home to win 4-3.

Kristyn Smith, freshman undecided, pitched a complete game giving up only three hits and striking out eight batters.

In the second game of the day, NGU scored three runs in each of the first and second innings. In the first inning Shin scored on a sacrifice bunt by Lindsey Eargle , junior sport management, Bailey scored on a fielder's choice and Farmer scored on a single by LaFreniere. In the second inning Shin and Katie Eargle, senior education, scored on a Lindsey Eargle single. Bailey then hit a single and Eargle scored to complete the Crusaders' output to win 6-2.

Krista Yeoman, senior marketing, pitched four innings for the Crusaders and only giving up three hits.

On Saturday, North Greenville went to Brenau University and swept a doubleheader, continuing the winning streak that had begun on March 20.

In the first game, North Greenville won 3-1 as NGU scored all three of its runs in the third inning. Lindsey Eargle singled in Katie Eargle, and then Bailey doubled in Eargle and Bridget Watson.

In the second game, NGU scored two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning, and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Before the doubleheader on March 24, the team's record stood at 8-13.

The squad will travel to Piedmont for a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. and will play a doubleheader Saturday at Newberry at noon.
