North Greenville University students are singing their way across the southeast. The Concert Choir is touring from March 28 through April 2 for their annual spring tour.
Dr. Barry Combs, associate professor of music, will be accompanying the group.
NGU has been doing this tour for at least 10 years and Combs said it could have been around for even longer.
"I've been here for 10 years, and every year we've done it," Combs said.
The choir will be leaving around 2 p.m. on Friday and returning around 10 a.m. on Wednesday. A total of 62 students will be part of this year's tour.
The trip will be going through three states: South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.
"I'm looking forward to it because I've never been to Alabama, and some of the songs we're singing are fun. I hope that everyone likes them," said Megan Hall, freshman music education.
The choir will be visiting the following places: Second Baptist Church, Rehoboth Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Glencoe, Emerald Baptist Church, Riverland Hills Baptist Church, Martha Franks Retirement Center and First Baptist Church in Laurens.
One goal for this tour is to recruit students for North Greenville University.
Combs said, "Another reason is to make churches and [music ministers] aware of the high quality of music that we offer at North Greenville, based on what they see of our students and hear of our students."
The tour also give students a chance to perform and refine their musical abilities, increasing their talent and improving their musicianship.
"For the music student, part of their education is to learn to perform," Combs said.
If nothing happens, next spring another tour will be taken by the Concert Choir to represent the university.
