Baseball keeps one from 3-game series with Chowan

On March 26, the North Greenville Crusaders traveled to Mars Hill to play the Lions in a doubleheader. The Lions swept both games of the twin bill. Mars Hill won the first game 16-4 and also won the second game by a final count of 5-2.
Mars Hill College scored eight runs in the first two innings, which gave them the lead they would keep for the remainder of the game. During the fourth inning of play Mars Hill held a 13-4 advantage over the Crusaders. They scored three runs in the sixth inning which gave them the 16-4 victory over North Greenville.
The Crusaders were not able to attain a win in the second game, but they did keep the game within reach. The Lions won the second game 5-2. The game was scoreless until Mars Hill's Brandon Savoca sacrificed and allowed Matt Oleski to score first run for the Lions in the fourth inning. They would then score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put away the Crusaders.
North Greenville, however, did not go down without a fight. They scored two runs in their last at-bat off one hit and one Mars Hill error.
North Greenville pounded out a 13-7 win on the afternoon of March 28 against Chowan University to start out a three-game series.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Crusaders hammered out nine runs, which put them in the lead. The Hawks had an offensive burst in the fifth inning when Justin Hollingsworth smashed a grand slam, which still left Chowan trailing NGU by six runs. The Hawks had one last attempt at catching the Crusaders with a home run by Joey Ryder in the seventh inning, but it was too little, too late.
Grayson Smith, junior mathematics, won the game for the Crusaders, his second of the season. Chris Harbit, freshman undecided, led NGU with three hits and two RBI, and Brandon Duckworth, freshman undecided, had two hits and three RBI.
On March 29, the Crusaders faced off against Chowan University in a doubleheader. The Crusaders, unfortunately, were held scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Randy Stegall, freshman undecided, scored their only run of the game. North Greenville was also defeated in the nightcap 6-1. North Greenville's record dropped to 4-27-1.
The Crusaders are scheduled to play at Lincoln Memorial University on April 2 at 4 p.m.
