The annual Spring Fling event was in full force last week with Resident Halls competing for the McCormick Cup and Crown.
Spring Fling is an event for students during the spring semester. These activities are the final battles for the Cup and Crown.
Around 100 students were involved in the Spring Fling activities this semester. Teams competed to steal the bragging rights from last year's winners, West Crain and Brashier.
Spring Fling is designed to bring Resident Halls together and build community while competing against other students. This year's theme was based on the Olympics.
"I think that Spring Fling did bring us together more as a Unit. We all pretty much knew each other, but with all the different events, we really got to learn to work together as a team and just become really good friends," said Jennifer Bush, sophomore business administration.
Spring Fling Olympics began with lighting the torch at the opening ceremonies on March 31.
The dorms that participated were the Wood houses, Unit E, Chocaster, Crusader Courts 9 and 11, Brashier, Trustee, Middle Howard, Unit B and Top Roberson.
"My favorite part about Spring Fling this year was on Wednesday when we had the Water Olympics. We did a water relay putting on full water gear such as a water cap, floaties, goggles, and flippers. After putting on the gear, we had to fill a pitcher up with water one cup at a time, that had holes in the bottom," Bush said.
Each team created a country name, national anthem and national flag. Teams participated in activities, such as the sit-in, dodge ball tournament, disc throw, javelin toss, relay race, water balloon volleyball and water relay race.
"My favorite was the water events because everyone seemed to really get into it. It was fun to watch everyone have a good time," said Diane Turner, student activities coordinator.
Awards were given for first, second and third places. The team to win the entire competition has bragging rights and their names placed on the trophy.
Spring Fling ended on Thursday evening with fireworks and a closing ceremony.
"Technically, the whole competition is not over yet. We still have powder puff football. I think that we are tied for first with Middle Howard right now though," Bush said.
McCormick Cup and McCormick Crown winners will not be announced until the end of the semester when all events are finished. The remaining competitions are Powder Puff football for females and indoor football for males.
