House Rules:

Rule 1: God came to my house, and I killed him.

Rule 2: I will kill anyone who comes to my house like I killed God.

Rule 3: Give me one dead body, and I might let No. 2 slide.

You have until dawn.

The premise for the book House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti is one of suspense, murder and a small dose of self-loathing.

The book opens in the backwoods of Alabama with Jack and Stephanie, a couple on their way to Montgomery to end a failing marriage, when they have some car problems.

Car trouble in the form of a rubber mat with spikes rips their tires to pieces, and they leave the car behind to search for a phone.

They find a house in the middle of nowhere and discover they are not the only ones who have run into car trouble. Apparently, so have Randy and Leslie, two more people who are a part of a sadistic game orchestrated by Barsidious White, a killer whose most prominent feature is a tin can he uses as a mask.

As the four fight through a maze of the house's halls and corridors, the demons and inbreeds that haunt those same halls, the house and even the members of the group, they find that their only way of escape is death.

The underlying theme throughout this book is sacrifice. More importantly, innocent sacrifice for the guilty, which is portrayed in the little girl they find named Susan who is the only innocent one in the book.

The book is full of twists and turns that will keep you flipping the pages to read what happens next and, ultimately, brings you to a better understanding of deliverance and salvation in Jesus Christ.
