April 8 was the finale of the North Greenville University Concert Choir's spring tour, held in Turner Chapel. Dr. Barry Combs was the conductor.
Combs said that he was pleased with how they performed during their tour.
Senior music performance majors Rebecca Bonas, senior music performance, Kolby Matson, senior music performance, and Lauren Powers, senior music performance, were the pianists for the evening. The concert featured the songs the choir sang over its spring tour. Their spring tour was March 28 to April 2.
The program consisted of 21 songs. The concert choir sang 14 songs and the North Greenville University Singers sang seven. Of the 21 songs sung, two were in a different language: "Mitten wir im Leben sind" and "Ubi caritus." Katherine Bonas, junior music education, and Chelsea Moultrop, sophomore music education, did a duet to "Now Sing We Joyfully Unto God." Pamela Williamson, freshman music education, and Katherine Kneisley, freshman music performance, did solos to the song "He Never Failed Me Yet." Justin Boazman , sophomore church music, played the flute and Williamson played the violin in the song "My Shepard Will Supply My Need." Justin Simmions, junior music education, conducted one of the pieces called "Be Thou My Vision."
One of the evening's highlights was the song "Lord Speak" written by Carolyn Hamlin. Appropriately Hamlin Recital Hall is named after her. She wrote this song inspired by a prayer she had heard from a preacher. This song was sung in honor of her. There were also songs written by Mendelssohn, Gretchaninoff, and Moses Hogan.
Autumn Mcabee, sophomore elementary education said that she really enjoyed the concert and thought that it was really good. She liked it better than last year because of the upbeat songs and the solos. She especially enjoyed the song, "He Never Failed Me Yet." She hopes that this concert is continued next year and in years to come.
Boazman, who is in the choir, thought that it went really well. He felt that it was more of a worship time than a concert in the way it was meant to come across. He really enjoyed playing the flute also. He felt he got to worship God in two different ways during this concert. He thought that overall it sounded and blended better than he thought it would. God had his hand over the concert and the people involved. His favorite song was "My Souls Been Anchored."
Karla Neves, sophomore theatre, and she said that she really enjoyed this cultural event and thought that it was the smoothest running cultural event this semester. Neves, Cultural Event head usher, felt there was a really good turn out for an event.
It seemed that the favorite song for everyone was "My Souls Been Anchored." There were a lot of people there and the concert seemed to be enjoyed by all. It was a good conclusion for the Choir Tour.
Don't miss out on next week's cultural events.
