Elliot was among five men who were martyred in Ecuador while trying to reach the Waodoni tribe.
Christians often hear about missionaries being sent all over the world. But we tend to forget the people in our own daily lives.
Working at a missions-oriented summer camp, my eyes were opened to how much of a need there is in our own country for missionaries. Many missionaries would spend the week with us, and we would learn about their lives and how they reach those around them.
A lot of times, those missionaries would tell us stories of people coming to know Christ. Simple stories of how they showed love and compassion on those that had never seen it before.
Think about those in your daily lives that you do not know if they are saved or not. You do not see their spiritual fruit, but we continue to just let them live life.
I am not just "preaching to the choir;" I am also talking to myself.
There have been numerous times that I have walked past someone who looked like they were having a bad day. I have passed people sitting alone in the cafeteria and joined my friends without a second thought.
A friend of mine said, "I think that being a Christian, in general, is a mission."
That has always stuck with me because our lives should be used to glorify God. He has called us to "go and make disciples of all the nations" (Matthew 28:19).
It does say all nations, and I have no problem with people traveling overseas. But we cannot forget those in our own backyards.
Missionaries are needed everywhere. So live your life in a way that people can see Christ shine through you where ever you may be.
