Crusaders swipe series from Brevard
Baseball wins three of last four

On April 9, the North Greenville University Crusaders faced Southern Wesleyan University in a doubleheader.
The Crusaders split the doubleheader, losing the first game 5-4 in eight innings and winning the second game 6-5.
Josh Hohn, freshman undecided, was North Greenville's leading batter during the first game. Hohn went 3-for-5 with one RBI and also scored two runs. Chris Harbit, freshman undecided, also chipped in with two RBIs. Devin Vance, senior business administration, took the loss for the Crusaders.
During the second game of the series, Daniel Goodnight, freshman sport management, pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief and earned the victory for NGU.
North Greenville scored three runs in the third inning, two in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning to help them defeat SWU in the second game of the series.
Hohn went 2-for-3 at bat with four RBIs, including plating two runners with a fifth inning home run.
North Greenville's record was 5-32-1 following the Southern Wesleyan double-header.
The Brevard College Tornados traveled to North Greenville to play on the afternoon of April 11.
The Tornados scored first, giving them an early 1-0 lead, which they would soon lose, falling to North Greenville 7-2.
North Greenville would tie Brevard in the bottom of the second inning when first baseman Grant Kelley, freshman sport management, scored from third on a wild pitch by the Tornados' Jacob White. In the bottom of the third inning, Curt Marshall, senior elementary education, doubled with the bases loaded to drive in three runs.
North Greenville earned a substantial lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning. NGU then scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off a two-run homerun by Marshall.
The Crusaders held a five-run lead for the remainder of the game for a 7-2 victory over Brevard College.
The following day, April 12, the Tornados and the Crusaders met again to play a doubleheader.
The Tornados took the 5-0 victory in game one but fell to North Greenville 4-3 in the rubber game of the series.
Chris Koch, freshman business administration, pitched for 3 2/3 innings and received the loss for the Crusaders, allowing two runs on three hits. NGU rightfielder Randy Stegall, sophomore undecided, and third baseman Dayton Lupton, sophomore sport management, went 2-for-3 at bat.
North Greenville had an early lead in the second game, scoring a run in the first and second innings to put them ahead 2-0.
The Tornados stole the lead from the Crusaders as they scored three runs in the fourth inning. In the bottom half of the fourth inning, however, the Crusaders took a 4-3 lead and took the game and series from Brevard.
North Greenville's Chad Drosieko, freshman elementary education, picked up the win for NGU during the nightcap. Randy Stegall went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Cory Hinton, junior sport management, was 1-for-3 at bat with a double and a RBI.
North Greenville's record is 7-33-1 for the season. Their home finale is a three-game series this weekend against Chowan University. The series starts April 18 at 2 p.m. and continues April 19 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.

When is coach nihart going to retire. He only coaches baseball to collect a pay check. He has had losing seasons every year he has been there and he hasn't even won 20 games in a season. (Continued…)
